Pool Hours

Thank you for a wonderful 2016 season!

See you on Memorial Day Weekend, 2017!

March 1, 2017

Last week, a letter was mailed to each Azionaqua member.  Inside the letter was a brochure detailing the activities, programs, and lessons that would be offered at the pool this summer.  In addition, the brochure disclosed the new back-to-school pool hours and that Azionaqua would be remaining open for an additional week after Labor Day.  There was great excitement for the board to reveal all that was going to be new in 2017; the extension of the season a significant driver of that excitement.

Over the weekend, it was brought to the board’s attention that the new back-to-school hours—specifically, the pool being closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening—was concerning. The board took this concern seriously and would like to provide an update.

Azionaqua’s revised back-to-school hours are as follows:

Monday-Friday, 10:00am-1:00pm; 4:30-8:00pm

Saturday-Sunday, 10:00am-8:00pm

A moment to explain how we arrived here.  The beginning of the school year creates mild havoc with our scheduling.  The majority of lifeguards are high school or college kids and have either returned to campus or started fall activities once the school year commences.  In an effort to balance evening member demand with the limited staff—while maintaining our strict safety standards—the decision was made to limit evening hours at the pool once school was back in session.  The intent was not preventing members from coming to the pool or devaluing membership in any way.  The board was simply trying to remain fiscally smart while accommodating our membership, broadly.

To that point, I would like to personally apologize for not communicating this change—or the reasoning for the change—proactively, and clearly.  I also want to thank the members who questioned the decision and encouraged the board to reconsider.  It is my belief that for Azionaqua to thrive, there must be passion from our members believing strongly in the values Azionaqua represents.

I feel grateful being linked to such a tremendous organization with a membership base that wants to raise their family at Azionaqua.  If anyone has questions or concerns about this topic—or any other topic—please reach out to me.  I would be happy to talk with you.

Joe Bookwalter, President Azionaqua Board
